MARMORINO

Plaster material inheriting the beauty of stone and lime nurtured by the maritime nation of Venice

Material Story

Marmorino is a traditional plaster material born about 400 years ago, when the Republic of Venice boasted great prosperity in the Mediterranean world. In Venice, where vast wealth and culture gathered through trade, it was necessary to create beautiful and rational architecture within limited resources. Marmorino was created in this context to reproduce 'stone-like expression' on walls using marble powder and lime. Craftsmen at that time crushed stones themselves, aged lime, and created materials from scratch. Marmorino is a finish completed by the accumulation of such handwork, not just a coating material, but a material where the craftsman's sense and experience appeared directly as expression. Modern Marmorino respects this historical technique while reconstructing it to fit the sensibilities and spaces of modern people. The finish reveals elegant color unevenness and the heads of fine sand grains, and the natural fluctuation that is not too uniform gives depth to the wall surface. The gloss is about semi-gloss, accepting light softly, wrapping the entire space in a calm impression. It can create a chic and classy interior that is not gaudy but has a certain presence. Although it is still used for exteriors in Italy, we recommend using it for interiors in Japan considering climate conditions. While Marmorino continues to be used for the restoration of historical architecture in old Venice and Florence, it is a plaster material with timeless charm that blends naturally into modern architecture and interiors. The quiet beauty created by stone, lime, and human hands. Marmorino softly reflects the history and craftsman culture of Venice in modern spaces.
